Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Meat thermometer

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 8 flour or corn tortillas for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes.
  • Slice the chicken breasts into thin strips, no thicker than 1/4 inch, for even cooking.
  • Combine the chicken strips, sliced peppers, and onion in a large bowl.
  • Add olive oil and all the spices, then toss thoroughly until every piece is well coated.
  • Arrange the mixture in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.
  • Air fry at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket at the halfway point.
  • Check that the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
  • Warm the tortillas, assemble the fajitas, and serve with your choice of toppings.

Notes

  • Pat chicken dry before seasoning to help it brown better.
  • Always preheat the air fryer for best texture results.
  • Cook in batches if your air fryer basket is smaller than 5 quarts.
  • A squeeze of fresh lime over the finished fajitas makes a big difference.
