Ingredients
  

  • 1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, well drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) fruit cocktail, drained
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, halved and drained
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup sour cream full-fat preferred
  • 8 oz whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut optional
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional

Instructions
 

  • Drain all canned fruit thoroughly. Press crushed pineapple through a fine strainer to remove as much liquid as possible.
  • Mix sour cream and whipped topping together in a large bowl until smooth.
  • Fold in all drained fruit, marshmallows, coconut, and nuts if using. Stir gently to keep fruit pieces intact.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  • Stir gently before serving and adjust creaminess with extra whipped topping if desired.

Notes

  • Drain fruit longer than you think necessary to prevent a watery salad.
  • Do not use fresh pineapple - the enzymes will dissolve the marshmallows.
  • Best served within 48 hours of making.
  • Do not freeze - texture does not hold after thawing.
