Equipment

  • Large cutting board
  • Chef's knife
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Toaster or oven (optional)

Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub sandwich rolls slightly toasted
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce about half a head
  • 4 ounces sliced deli ham roughly 4-6 slices
  • 4 ounces sliced salami about 6 slices
  • 3 ounces sliced pepperoni approximately 5-6 slices
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 medium Roma tomato diced
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 1/4 cup banana peppers or pepperoncini sliced
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Italian dressing or submarine dressing
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Spread shredded lettuce evenly across a large cutting board as your base layer.
  • Arrange deli ham, salami, and pepperoni in even layers over the lettuce.
  • Scatter diced tomato, sliced red onion, and banana peppers on top of the meats.
  • Lay provolone cheese slices over all the ingredients.
  • Using a large chef's knife, chop everything together with vertical cuts, then turn the board and make horizontal cuts. Continue until all ingredients are in small, bite-sized pieces.
  • Transfer the chopped mixture to a large bowl. Add mayonnaise, Italian dressing, red wine vinegar, and Italian seasoning.
  • Toss everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  • Toast hoagie rolls lightly if desired. Stuff each roll generously with the chopped mixture and serve immediately.

Notes

    >For best results, keep filling and rolls separate until ready to serve >Drain excess liquid from tomatoes and pickles before chopping to prevent soggy sandwiches >Chill ingredients beforehand for cleaner chopping >Customize with your favorite deli meats, cheeses, and vegetables >Add hot peppers or spicy salami for extra heat
