  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk For moisture and richness.
  • 2 large eggs For binding the batter.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted For richness.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor.

For the Cinnamon Swirl

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted For the cinnamon filling.
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar For sweetness and depth.
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon For the signature flavor.

For the Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened For the glaze.
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar For sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons milk To thin the glaze.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Be careful not to overmix; some lumps are okay.
  • In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Transfer this mixture into a piping bag or plastic zip-top bag with a small corner snipped off.

Cooking

  • Lightly grease the waffle iron.
  • Pour about 1/2 cup of batter into the center of the hot waffle iron.
  • Pipe a spiral of the cinnamon mixture onto this batter.
  • Close the waffle iron and cook until the waffles are golden and crisp, about 3–4 minutes.
  • Repeat this process until all the batter and cinnamon swirl mixture is used.

Making the Glaze

  • In a bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until the glaze is pourable.

Serving

  • Serve the waffles warm, generously drizzling with the cream cheese topping.

Notes
