Ingredients
  

  • 2 cans strawberry pie filling 21 ounces each
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box vanilla or yellow cake mix 15.25 ounces
  • 10 to 12 tablespoons unsalted butter melted or thinly sliced
  • as needed whipped cream for serving, optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F and lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Spread the strawberry pie filling across the bottom of the dish.
  • Add the sliced fresh strawberries over the filling.
  • In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, egg, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the strawberries.
  • Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the top.
  • Drizzle melted butter or place thin butter slices across the surface.
  • Bake until golden, bubbling, and set at the edges, then cool slightly before serving.
