Cake Layers

  • 1 box sponge cake mix or homemade sponge cake

Strawberries

  • 4 cups fresh strawberries sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for macerating strawberries

Cream Layers

  • 2 cups heavy cream chilled
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the sponge cake according to package instructions or your favorite homemade recipe. Let it cool completely, then cut into cubes.
  • In a bowl, combine sliced strawberries and granulated sugar. Toss gently and let sit for 10 minutes to macerate.
  • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  • In a large trifle bowl, layer half of the cake cubes, half of the strawberries, and half of the whipped cream. Repeat layers with the remaining ingredients.
  • Cover and refrigerate the trifle for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve chilled, optionally garnished with extra strawberries or mint leaves.

Notes

For added texture, sprinkle crushed shortbread cookies or toasted almonds between layers. Make ahead for a stress-free dessert at gatherings.
